BSA Registration 2018

PLEASE COMPLETE BY THE NOV. 28 DEADLINE so that we can meet our deadline with BSA!

Each year, we must complete the challenging task of rechartering the troop with BSA. The Scout side of things is easy. However, we have a very large number of adults who help run this troop that must be re-registered as well.

NEW THIS YEAR: Our council is back to a two-year cycle for Youth Protection Training (YPT) Each adult including merit badge counselors, Troop Committee and Scoutmaster staff MUST complete the Youth Protection Training (YPT) every two years, preferably in November. We cannot register anyone who does not have a current YPT certificate. The ideal goal is that everyone, regardless of when you took it last, gets on schedule by taking it in November! However, because we have gone back to the two-year cycle, almost everyone is current and all that is needed is a few clicks on the spreadsheet below.

Scouts – Steps to Re-register:

• • Visit the Troop 171 Registration Confirmation Website

  • Scouts begin on line 91.

  • CONTINUE YOUR REGISTRATION FOR 2018: Click in Column C to re-register.

  • DROP YOUR REGISTRATION IN BSA: Click in Column D to drop [this would also apply to Scouts who have turned 18]

  • BOYS’ LIFE SUBSCRIPTION: The current status according to BSA is in column F.

    • Use the pulldown in the cells of column E to KEEP THE SAME, ADD or DROP Boys’ Life.

  • Put any notes in Column M to help Barb or Scott with registration. This would include changes of address from what is listed.

Adults – Steps to complete YPT and Re-register:

• • Visit the Troop 171 Registration Confirmation Website. All adults currently registered with the troop are listed between rows between 5 and 88.

  • CONTINUE YOUR REGISTRATION FOR 2018: Click in Column C to re-register.

  • DROP YOUR REGISTRATION IN BSA: Click in Column D to drop [this would also apply to Scouts who have turned 18]

  • BOYS’ LIFE SUBSCRIPTION: The current status according to BSA is in column F.

    • Use the pulldown in the cells of column E to KEEP THE SAME, ADD or DROP Boys’ Life.

  • Check Columns H, I, K and L for status of Youth Protection Training. As stated above, the Council goal is to have ALL adult complete YPT annually in November to be current until the next recharter.

  • YOUTH PROTECTION ON-LINE VIDEO and quiz. Reminder – the certification is now good for TWO years.

  • IMPORTANT – If you need to complete the video and quiz:

    • Enter the date in column M. We will move it to the correct column for the records.

    • Either print the completion certificate OR send the pdf of the certificate to Barb Allan or Scott Miller

Cost of Registration for 2017

• All fees will be charged to troop Scout accounts

• Youth and adult registration fees are $33.00

• Boys’ Life Magazine is $12.00

• Troop dues for Scouts is $90 per year [$50 for first year Scouts]

• PayPal Reminder – All fees including BSA Registration, Boys’ Life, troop dues, campout costs, etc can be paid via PayPal for a 3% fee.

• Please let us know if you are registering in two or more Scouting unit to avoid being charged double!

A final plea/request – the paperwork side of recharging a troop of 82 adults and 68 Scouts is a huge task! Please help us [Barb and Scott] by completing the registration Google sheet AND Youth Protection Training if needed as soon as possible. With the holidays approaching, we would like to get done sooner than later!
