FLAMING GORGE SUMMER CAMP UPDATE - APRIL 27

The flurry of summer camp emails is starting. It doesn’t seem possible, but summer camp is just 42 days away! Here are a few checklist items to bring everyone up to date:

• SUMMER CAMP IMPORTANT DATES (including this Monday)

    • Monday, April 29 (7:00 to 8:00 PM) - Summer Camp Information Night for Parents. This is especially for parents of new Scouts but everyone is welcome. This starts while the cleanup is happening (6:00 to 7:30) so that parent questions can be answered and leave soon after the Scouts get done with the service project.

      • Any and all questions will be welcome including what, where, when, merit badges, advancement, food, and other activities!

    • Sunday, May 5 (7:00 PM) - Court of Honor

    • Monday, May 6 - NO REGULAR TROOP MEETING due to Court of Honor on Sunday! However, we will have a FG Staff Meeting!

    • Monday, May 6 (7:00 to 8:30 PM) Flaming Gorge Adult Staff Meeting! We will meet to plan who is teaching which merit badge, camp procedures, etc. If you are going as a staff member, please try to attend!

    • Monday, May 20 – Camp Medicals/Physicals due for Scouts and adults (if possible)

• SUMMER CAMP WEBPAGE – All of this information will be archived on the Troop 171 Website. http://bsa171.org

• CAMP PHYSICALS – BSA requires a physical exam for all participants (Scouts and adults) of any Scout event over 72 hours. The 4-part medical form is located on the link below. NOTE ABOUT OLD FORMS – if you had the medical form signed by your physician anytime after May 2012, it will work. Just be sure to check it over for any updated medical or prescription information.

  • Keep a copy of your medical form. It can be used for one calendar year from the date of your physical.

  • A doctors form will not do. It must be the BSA form.

  • Tetanus is required by BSA recommendation and Troop 171 Adult Committee resolution. Please make sure it is up to date. Be sure to take time to complete the inoculations page.

  • PLEASE TAKE TIME TO COMPLETE EVERY PART OF THE FORM. IN AN EMERGENCY, WE NEED A PERFECT FORM!

• CAMP PHYSICAL DUE DATE – May 20 if possible. We can accept them a bit later, but we need them before we leave for camp!

• CAMP EQUIPMENT LIST

  • Items specific to Flaming Gorge

    • PFD (Life jacket) Recommended! We will have pfd’s, but it is best if Scouts have their own that is fitted correctly.

    • Camp Chair (folding style). Not required but it is helpful during merit badges and around patrol sites.

• CAMP FEES and PAYMENT SCHEDULE

  • ESTIMATED Total Cost: $250 (Scouts) and $150 (Adult Staff)

  • Payment Schedule

    • Deposit DUE Monday, April 29, 2013 ($100 Scout and $50 adult staff) (sorry for the short notice. If this is a problem, please let us know)

    • Final Payment Due June 3, 2013 ($150 Scouts and $100 adult staff)

    • NOTE – Summer camp is one of the most important events for our Scouts. If the cost of camp is prohibitive, please let us know. We can modify the payment schedule or in some cases, help with scholarship funds. Please contact Kathy Brown, Troop Treasurer <kathybrown171@gmail.com>.
